Today, The Learning Center and Jobs for Nevada’s Graduates, Inc. (JAG Nevada) announce a joint initiative to stimulate STEM, IT and Cybersecurity pathways for youth. This strategic partnership provides high school graduates with an onramp to career pathways among the in-demand area of IT and Cybersecurity. JAG Nevada’s mission is to ensure that Nevada’s students are set up for success and graduate work-ready. With a graduation rate of over 94% JAG Nevada cuts unemployment in half among youth participants. “Careers in Cyber-Security and Information Technology are among the most promising careers young people can enter today” stated JAG Nevada Executive Director, Dr. René Cantú Jr. “Students can enter these careers by stacking credentials rather than waiting for years to complete a degree. That is where the Learning Center comes in, and JAG Nevada is proud partner with them to help prepare Nevada’s Cyber professionals of the future!”
“The Learning Center champion’s career pathways for our youth in the high-demand area of IT and Cybersecurity,” said Linda Montgomery, President of The Learning Center. “This exciting partnership will launch high school students’ career pathways to prepare them for bright futures in the IT and Cybersecurity profession. Additionally, this program will serve our State of Nevada employers by developing a talent pipeline to assist them in attracting talent to the field.” Montgomery adds. Nevada currently has over 1,900+ open technology and cybersecurity jobs in Nevada.
This synergistic collaboration provides a win-win-win scenario for the student, the employer, and our community. High school seniors who have an interest and ability in the technology field who wish to begin a lifelong career in IT and Cybersecurity can pursue careers in this field by earning global credentials. “The Learning Center is so proud to collaborate with JAG Nevada to connect our youth to secure careers in this in-demand, high-wage, family-sustaining career field” said Linda Montgomery. Montgomery continues “I’ve had a 34-year career in this field, and I feel passionately about “Paying It Forward” in support of our youth. Through our approved Registered Apprenticeship program, together we will champion our youth to lifelong careers in IT and Cybersecurity. TLC continues a history of making a difference every day—towards a safer, healthier, and more secure community, state, nation and world.”
As our nation struggles to mitigate and respond to cyber threats, it is recognized “the” key component is a qualified, well-trained cybersecurity workforce capable of defending our critical infrastructure and digital assets. Cybersecurity professionals can help to prevent or mitigate the vulnerabilities that could allow malicious individuals or groups to access our critical infrastructure. The ability to secure and defend our IT systems depends on the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the workforce. The Learning Center, has led the way for the past 33 years – and will lead the way through innovation, strategic initiatives, and success!
