Cybersecurity Training is essential to addressing Cyber Threats

Senator Jacky Rosen just introduced new legislation to the U.S. Senate to address cyberattacks

Information Security ≠ Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity is often confused with information security. Cybersecurity focuses on protecting computer systems – including hardware, software, data and digital infrastructure – from unauthorized access or being otherwise damaged or made inaccessible. Information security, on the other hand, is a broader category that looks to protect all information assets, whether in hard copy or in digital form.

In recent years, cybersecurity has come under intense media scrutiny because of a rapid increase in the size and number of attacks, and the degree of effect on individuals, governments and organizations. Moreover, the introduction of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) in 2018 means organizations must implement appropriate security measures to protect the personal data they process or risk substantial financial losses.

All well-informed organizations now consider cybersecurity a critical business issue, making cybersecurity training and apprenticeships even more essential than before.

Cyber Ready Workforce Act

U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) introduced the Cyber Ready Workforce Act, bipartisan legislation that would direct the U.S. Department of Labor to award grants to increase access to registered apprenticeship programs in cybersecurity today.

“Cybersecurity continues to be an issue of great national concern, and training our workforce with the skills to join this field will be key to protecting ourselves from future threats,” said Rosen.

The articles below explain more about what the Senator has to say about the part that Cybersecurity Apprenticeships will have to play in the coming years and what The Learning Center's role will be.
